NOVEMBER UPDATES
It may seem a little early to think about it--but Christmas is not that far away! To take some of the stress out of the Christmas shopping experience, consider some piano music CDs for your shopping list. These make great gifts--and it'as an opportunity to share this music with people who have never heard it. Lots of people on your list? If you are considering CDs as gifts for five or more people on your list, call or E-mail me for a volume discount! 707-826-2919 NEW CD RELEASE : THE SOUNDING JOY See the Featured Album section of this newsletter for more information. While this was originally released as a cassette, it was the first digital recording I ever did. The transfer to CD was from the original DAT tapes with five new recordings from August, 2004. NOVEMBER STARTS WITH A BANG! Saturday, November 6th was a big day for me. I started off early in the morning with a booth at the Arcata Farmers' Market. Saw some old friends and met some new ones. Then in the afternoon we had the Hospice Wine Auction at the Benbow Inn. This is always a great event attended by 250 people, many of whom I only get to see once a year. On the 11th I get to return to the Morris Graves Museum in Eureka to play for a company party. That is such a nice space to play music--and an excellent piano. The original recordings for my Christmas Album were done on that piano in it's old location on 1st Street in the Humboldt Cultural Center. I'll be at the Benbow Inn every Friday and Saturday in November PLUS Thanksgiving Day--from 5:30 to 9:30 PM SONG INSIGHTS ADDED FOR SUMMERTIME To help people understand the relevance to them of my art, I have written insights for each song on Summertime and added them to the web page for that CD. These are the stories behind the music that tell where it came from. It's interesting--check it out! FREE CD SAMPLERS AVAILABLE IN LOCAL STORES I'm continuing my campaign to distribute over 1000 free CD Samplers in Northern Humboldt. These samplers contain an introduction to myself and my art, two songs from Redwood Reflections, and the story behind each of those songs. These samplers are available free at The Metro, The Works, and Wildwood Music in Arcata and The Works in Eureka, as well as directly from me wherever I am. FEATURED ALBUM FOR NOVEMBER
The Sounding Joy is a collection of Christmas favorites, from sacred to secular, that was created as a cassette for a Christmas Celebration at the Eureka Inn in Eureka, California in 1992. I hear so often from people who still have, play, and cherish the original cassette in their homes, classrooms and other workplaces that I wanted to add something more to the CD release. I recorded 5 bonus tracks for The Sounding Joy in August of 2004. The artwork for thhis albuum was drawn by my good friend Teresa Porter, now one of the owners of the Benbow Inn. SONG SPOTLIGHT This is one of my favorite Christmas songs to play. I like how it lends itself to a Latin-flavored environment in which I can be expressive and experiment. In this time of conflict and the accompanying tearing apart of families, the sentiment is close to all our hearts. I recorded this one in August of this year for the new CD Release of The Sounding Joy. . .. . . . . |
