Just Enough To Get By
Peter Frothingham
This row I'm hoeing is deep and wide
Someday I'm gonna make it to the other side
The boss man complains he says it's never enough
I'm just trying to get the days' work done
Seems like we're spending a dollar
Trying to save a dime
We're living on love and working on overtime
The cost of living's too much
I can't afford to die
But I always got just enough
Just enough to get by
Staring at the headlights on the highway last night
I thought I saw a preacher in a broken taillight
He said my son gonna take you to the promised land
But first you got to have a silver coin in your hand
We're always spending a dollar
Trying to save a dime
We're living on love and working on overtime
The cost of living's too much
I can't afford to die
But I always got just enough
Just enough to get by
This row I'm hoeing is deep and wide
Someday I'm gonna make it to the other side
You always complain you say it's never enough
I'm just trying to get the days' work done
Seems like we're spending a dollar
Trying to save a dime
We're living on love and working on overtime
The cost of living's too much
I can't afford to die
But I always got just enough
Just enough to get by
